Airoli: The monsoon has barely begun and residents all
over are already battling problems caused due to potholes. There are
many instances and stretches of roads with deep craters that will only
worsen when rains hit the city with regularity.
The Mahape-Vitawa
stretch of the Thane-Belapur Road is filled with potholes. The stretch
that is near Patni Computers in Airoli has been in a bad condition for
quite sometime now; the potholes getting big with every monsoon.
Satyajit Shah, who goes to work via that part of the road, laments about
the fact that all of his attempts to bring the problem to the notice of
concerned authorities have yielded no results.“Since last year, I have been sending emails with photos of the potholes to various authorities, but it has not resulted in any action to improve the road condition. This year, thus, I have written to the chief minister, public works department (PWD) minister and many PWD officials in the hope that there will be some corrective measures taken,” said Shah. The photos taken by him a year back show deep potholes and vehicles skidding through them. Even at present there are many potholes that are sure to worsen when there are continuous showers in the city. “Monsoon has just started and there are over three months to go before it ends. I do not wish to travel in such hazardous condition that can be the major cause of accidents,” he added. Another commuter Kiran Pande said, “I ride my bike and have to take care to slow down every time I am on this road as it has potholes and the bike skids. When it rains incessantly, one can be sure that there will be many accidents.” The road falls under Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), which is known for bad maintenance of roads. MIDC officials could not be reached for comments. |
